Functional communication is the ability to
communicate one’s wants and needs in a
meaningful and effective way. Increasing a
child’s functional communication may help
reduce frustrations and challenging behaviors
as well as provide opportunities to build social
relationships. During this presentation, we will
discuss how to determine what your child is
trying to communicate with his/her behavior and
strategies for choosing and teaching an
an appropriate alternative method to communicate.
