Community support makes Steps for Autism a success

GREATER PENSACOLA – On Saturday, September 30, the Blue Wahoos stadium was buzzing with activity as Autism Pensacola celebrated its 6th Steps for Autism event. With more than 400 in attendance, autism families, community friends, first responders, and the business community came together to walk and celebrate #Steps2Acceptance in the beautiful downtown venue.

More than $50,000 was raised through sponsorships and team fundraising. All funds stay local and support the mission and programs of Autism Pensacola, including safety, quality of life, and awareness initiatives in both Escambia and Santa Rosa counties.

Because Steps for Autism is a grassroots initiative, businesses and families are encouraged to form teams to raise money for Autism Pensacola. From soliciting donations from friends and family, hosting restaurant give back nights and yard sales, and selling homemade goods, teams raised over $30,000 this year.

The top teams were: 1st place Stunters for Tunters, Jena Sudderth; 2nd place Team Rylee, Jake Livingston; 3rd place Team Roy’s Racers, Jennifer Lee. The top business team was Team Ascend. And a special President’s Award was given to Ana Boesel and Team Tiger Walk for Autism from Pensacola High School.

Thank you to our community supporters and the family and business teams who are helping us take #Steps2Acceptance in our community. One hundred percent of the proceeds from the walk stay in our local area to support those living with autism.
